How did you first get interested in the graphic arts, or decide to focus on graphic communications in school?
I was first introduced to graphic arts at my high school’s in-house graphic arts department. It was a fantastic program with so many resources. I learned a lot about using design software and creating finished products with a variety of printing processes like large format, screen printing, offset lithography, and flexography.

Did you take any courses in high school that were related to graphic communications, or that prepared you for your planned career?
Yes. I took an introductory class in graphic arts in my sophomore year and loved it! After that, I was invited by the instructor to join the production team. For two years in high school, I worked in the in-house print shop designing and creating products for the school corporation.

How do you think going through your education process prepared you for the workforce?
I think that taking graphic arts courses in high school and later interning for the graphic arts department for 3 years during college really presented me with helpful insights. I gained valuable knowledge about various printing processes and prepress design. I also had a unique opportunity to learn about design at school and then directly apply what I learned to a real project.
