Graphic Communications Education Association to Merge into The Foundation for Graphic Communication Education

PITTSBURGH, PA – July 31, 2026 – The Graphic Communications Education Association (GCEA) today announced that it will formally merge into The Foundation for Graphic Communication Education (The FGCE, formerly PGSF). This strategic decision, following a unanimous vote of support from the GCEA membership at the recent annual conference and unanimous approval from the FGCE Board of Directors, marks a significant step in securing the long-term stability and growth of the organization’s shared mission.

By joining forces with The FGCE, the GCEA will consolidate its administrative operations while significantly expanding the national platform and resources available to educators, students, and members.

"This merger allows us to build upon the legacy of the GCEA while leveraging the wider reach and sustainable resources of FGCE," said Denise Perryman, President of the GCEA. "We are deeply committed to ensuring that our unique voice and leadership remain central to this new chapter."

The merger prioritizes continuity for all existing programs. Flagship activities—including the Visual Communications Journal, student and educator contests and grants, and the GCEA Annual Conference—will continue without interruption.
To ensure the GCEA community remains directly involved in governance and strategic decision-making, a standing Advisory Council composed of current GCEA leaders is being established. Additionally, the GCEA President will hold a voting seat on The FGCE Board of Directors.

"We are honored to welcome the Graphic Communications Education Association into the fold," said Jeff White, Director of Development for The FGCE. "Together, we are positioned to expand our impact, support academic excellence, and provide even greater resources for the next generation of graphic communications professionals."

A joint transition committee has been chartered to define shared services, unify governance, and finalize a combined outreach plan. Members are encouraged to monitor upcoming communications regarding journal deadlines, contest entry dates, and further details regarding the next Annual Conference.
